Why did Copernic create a Corporate Edition?
It was based on popular demand and was in best interest of our customers, our employees, and our shareholders. The Corporate Edition offers enterprise-oriented features to ease deployment, maintenance and support for use throughout the organization. In addition, this new software offers mobile integration for our corporate customers, providing them with the optional feature of having remote access to their home and work desktop computers.
How do I buy the Corporate Edition?
If you would like to purchase 100 licenses or less you can simply purchase online using any major credit card, personal or business check, wire transfer, purchase order, PayPal, etc. If you would like to purchase more than 100 licenses please contact our Corporate Sales department to find our about our pricing options.
Is the Corporate Edition a one-time purchase or a subscription?
It is a one-time purchase that includes updates, upgrades, and support for a full year. The regular price per license is $59.95 USD, excluding taxes and shipping fees. Can I use the free Home Edition version of Copernic Desktop Search in my company or organization?
No. Copernic Desktop Search - Home Edition is available for personal use only. Commercial use is prohibited and requires a license.
What is the difference between the Corporate Edition and Home Edition?
In addition to the Corporate Edition being the only CDS version eligible for technical support assistance and use in the corporate and government environments, there are several important differences between the Home and Corporate Edition. Please see the Compare Editions Page.
Is there a possibility to have a central configuration of Copernic Desktop Search?
Yes, the Corporate Edition can do this. Many configuration settings are available through Group Policy Objects, which allows providing the same configuration to a group of users or computers. Please refer to the GPO documentation for more information.
Can CDS be run off a server?
No. CDS is a desktop application designed to be installed on desktop computers.
Can CDS create a central index?
No. CDS creates a separate index for each user. It cannot be centralized.
Can CDS index shared or network drives?
Yes. CDS can index network drives mapped as a Windows folder.
What size company was CDS Corporate Edition designed for?
CDS is designed for departments or companies of any size. It has been designed for small, medium and large businesses.
Can CDS search my Intranet?
Yes. CDS Corporate Edition enables corporate customer to add an Intranet tab within the application. When an Intranet search is performed, CDS Corporate Edition will redirect the query to the results page from the company’s Intranet. The network administrator only needs to configure the Intranet URL using the GPO.
Does CDS allow to create/add connectors?
Yes. CDS allows third-party developers to create plug-ins enabling new file type indexing (view PDF documentation). Copernic also offers a complete desktop indexing API for customers who require indexing and search functionalities within their application. For technology licensing information, please contact us.
Can CDS index alternative Outlook folders (like secondary contact folders)?
Yes. CDS indexes all contact folders.
Can the Corporate Edition have the possibility for a central configuration to prohibit the indexing of server drives?
Yes, the Corporate Edition allows network administrators to control network indexing behavior and permissions using the GPO.
Can Copernic provide me with customized or private label version of the Corporate Edition?
Yes, multiple customization options are available for companies purchasing more than 500 licenses. The cost is $15,000 and provides your company with its own custom build which is fully supported with updates, upgrades, and technical support. This investment enables you to brand the product with your own corporate identity in over 15 areas including colors, logos, titles, icon names, and more. You can also opt to purchase advanced customization options which provide deep integration into databases you specify, RSS feeds, Intranets, and other contents.
Is Copernic Desktop Search available for the Mac or Linux?
No. At this time, CDS only works on the Windows platform.
Is Copernic Desktop Search compatible with Windows Vista?
Yes.
What are the file types supported by the Corporate Edition?
CDS currently supports over 150 different file types for indexing and previewing. It also supports adding file extensions to be indexed to better suit your needs.
Can I still have web search features enabled with the Corporate Edition?
Yes, Copernic can also customize the Corporate Edition in numerous other ways. Please contact us for more information.
In which language is CDS Corporate Edition available?
CDS Corporate Edition is available for free trial or purchase in English, French, German and Spanish.
HOME USE VERSUS CORPORATE USE
Can I install the Corporate Edition on my home computer?
The Corporate Edition is sold to companies wishing to purchase licenses. While installation on your home computer is possible, this needs to be established as a verified license by your company. Should you wish to use CDS on your home computer for personal reasons, we encourage you to download the Home Edition on your personal computer.
I understand that the Copernic Desktop Search - Home Edition might be supported by advertising in the future, what is the timeline for that?
A definitive date has not been set. Please contact our sales team for advertising opportunities.
TRANSITIONING TO THE CORPORATE EDITION
What should I do if I work for a company and I have already installed the product on my work computer prior to the corporate use policy change?
You can continue using Copernic Desktop Search v2.1 or below by declining the auto update to v2.2 until March 31st, 2008. After such time, all corporate use will require licensing and all older versions should be deleted.
What should I do if I know our company is using your freeware version of Copernic Desktop Search without having paid for it?
We encourage you to contact our sales team to make the transition to the Corporate Edition prior to the March 31st, 2008 deadline, at which time commercial use of the free version of Copernic Desktop Search will become prohibited.
What versions will still receive technical support?
Technical support is only available to registered customers of the new Corporate Edition.
What versions will be maintained and upgraded?
Both the Home Edition (free for personal use) and the Corporate Edition will be updated and upgraded.
