Collection and
Use of Information
- Demographic, contact
information and fields of interest through the
registration process
Demographic (country, ZIP/postal code), contact
(name, e-mail address) and other information (e. g. reference source about
the installed software) may be requested by Copernic Inc.
through the Software registration process (except for Copernic Meta and
the free version of Copernic Desktop Search). Copernic Inc.
uses this data to tailor its products and services and to evaluate worldwide
Software diffusion. Copernic Inc. also uses customer contact
data to send information about Copernic Inc. to users who
have indicated a preference to receive notification of product news and
events. Customers may be removed, on demand, from the mailing list at any
time by visiting http://www.copernic.com/en/support/form-mailing.html.
- Use of the GUID (Globally
Unique Identifier)
Copernic Inc. uses random generation
techniques, in accordance with Microsoft Windows publicly
documented standards, to create a GUID during installation
of the software. A GUID is an alphanumeric identifier
used to identify a unique installation of a product,
and is found in many popular software applications.
Copernic Inc. uses the GUID for the sole purpose of statistically
compiling the number of installations of the Software. The GUID is associated
with information entered through the Software registration process, along
with the Software serial number applying to commercial products, version
type and number of the Software when received during the installation phase.
- Contextual advertisement
Copernic Inc. collects IP addresses and Web search terms for each individual query to provide contextual advertisements in the Copernic Agent product family. This data is kept until a nightly process consolidates it into global statistics.
Copernic Inc. will not use this data for any purpose other
than to provide contextual advertisements. Furthermore, it is impossible
to establish a link between individual IP addresses and demographic information,
contact information, GUID or any other information requested.
Please note that Copernic Meta and Copernic Desktop Search do not perform Web searches directly. They only feature shortcuts that forward Web queries to third-party search tools, available on the Copernic Inc. website.
- Keywords and result contents
processed by Copernic Desktop Search
Copernic Desktop Search does not allow transmission of keywords or result contents to Copernic Inc. or any of its partners for searches conducted by the user on his computer or corporate or home network. In addition, your computer is not logged or made accessible through Copernic Desktop Search to Copernic Inc. or any of its partners. If the software ever requires collection and processing of data, such as user’s profile, location, search history, fields of interest and tastes, these data should be processed only by the user’s computer and not be transmitted deliberately to Copernic Inc. or any of its partners.
Serial Numbers
Serial numbers for commercial
products of Copernic Agent, Copernic Summarizer v2.0
(or later), Copernic Tracker and Copernic Desktop Search
are collected through the electronic registration process.
Copernic Inc. uses this information only
to help users retrace their serial numbers when they
need to re-install, update or upgrade their current version
of the product.
